Business Croatian and Strengthening Cooperation between Germany and Croatia

On February 25 and 26, 2026, a working meeting was held at the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Zagreb as part of the project “Poslovni hrvatski jezik” (Business Croatian). The participants were Sanja Pešorda, lecturer of Croatian at the Institute of Slavic Studies at the University of Regensburg (Croaticum), Professors Drijenka Pandžić Kuliš and Mirna Petanjek from the Department of Business Foreign Languages at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Zagreb, and Prof. emer. Dr. Zygfryd Gehrmann, Head of the Center for German and European Studies (CGES) at the University of Zagreb. Prof. Dr. Björn Hansen, Chair of Slavic Philology – Linguistics at the Institute of Slavic Studies at the University of Regensburg, had to cancel his participation due to illness.

The aim of the project is to develop a curriculum and a textbook for Business Croatian intended for students of the Croaticum, students of Economics and Business Communication, as well as students from other study programs at the University of Regensburg who are interested in working in a Croatian business environment. The goal is to provide them with knowledge and competencies necessary for effective communication with Croatian partners in the field of business, while also offering insights into the basic principles and practices of the Croatian market. In a further step, the development of specialized courses and workshops for an interested public outside the university is also planned.

In this way, the project positions itself as an important component of the long-term strategy of the Croaticum aimed at promoting the Croatian language and culture and strengthening economic cooperation between Germany and Croatia.
